Bendigo Business Groups Merge
Posted 26/06/2008
The local business community will speak with a more united voice after the creation of a new peak body to represent commercial and industrial activity in central Victoria.
The Bendigo Business Council is the result of an amalgamation between the Bendigo Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCC&I) and the Central Victorian Business Network (CVBN) that was approved by the members of both organisations today.
Outgoing BCC&I Chair Mr. Graeme Sloan said the new body will capitalize on the considerable achievements of both the BCC&I and CVBN in recent years.
“A bigger and higher profile organisation in Bendigo will lead to better business representation for our region, especially with Federal, State and Local Governments.”
“The BCC&I will be better placed to help our members grow their businesses by encouraging greater co-operation and collaboration among local business owners and operators.”
Mr. Derek de Vrieze, outgoing Chair of CVBN, said there will be benefits for the members of both organisations.
“CVBN members will be able to access opportunities previously only available to BCC&I members while CVBN’s successful networking events will now be open to BCC&I members.”
“Better networking will open up more business opportunities and local business events will be better co-ordinated.”
An interim board – to be chaired by former Bendigo Mining Chief Executive Mr. Doug Buerger has been appointed to implement the merger.
Mr. Buerger said the creation of the Bendigo Business Council will allow businesses to make a more valuable contribution to the ongoing prosperity of the region.
“Business has a vital role to play in ensuring that central Victoria continues to grow sustainably and profitably in today’s challenging economic climate.”
“For example, the BCC&I will take a leading role in developing the +25 strategy for commerce and industry in Bendigo and in helping local businesses exploit the opportunities presented by increasing globalization and environmental awareness.”
The Interim Board of the Bendigo Business Council comprises:
- Doug Buerger (Chair)
- Bruce Baehnisch
- Peter Dehnert
- Derek de Vrieze
